Today

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

Into the 4th week of my career, I finally broke down into exhaustion today. After 2 wks of exam, 1 wk of goal setting in malaysia, 1 wk of prudential product knowledge full-day training with a final exam attached which just ended yesterday, today and tomorrow i have an in-house training in PTO itself and next Tuesday my Health and insurance (HI) test.

The final straw came when i heard that there is gonna be an exam for this inhouse training on coming thurs.Admist my anxiety for lack of time to study the upcoming HI test, i was the first to shoot up my hands in protest during class this morning.

I stomped up to my manager’s office immediately when there was a 5min break. i told him that i was very very stressed and was not aware that there was gonna be such a test.there was a moment where i was on the verge of tears when i trembled over my words. I tink he could have easily noticed that cos he’s a very observant person. He did not reprimand me but he immediately called the trainer today and told her that I would be extracted from the training today and rescheduled it next week again.nothing much would have changed except that I would not be able to partner my collegue together for road shows and slower than others into contracting by 1 week for those who attended the same training as me.

I think i could have rush things a bit too far ahead than what i can comprehend. When I looked at the calender,it was only 18th June that i was selected and yet i had managed at the same par with those who were selected in May already. On the other hand,I also prided myself for being able to go faster than others cos i’m very competitive.

I got a new testimonial from Clara who used to work with me at the tuition centre for the chinese dept. She said that she heard that i was a workaholic even before she came. I guess I just had high expectations of myself. i actually tore away the price list that was to act as a reference for my staff twice.I couldn understand why they can’t memorise the prices, while i can without such a thing when i first came. But in the end, they complained abt it that i gave up.these are the quotations that I still remember.

Taipei places of interest

Friday, July 7th, 2006

Hi Sharon, Sweehong and anyone who is going to taipei,

Sorry It took me so long for me to update u on the places of interest in Taipei.Below are some of the places that I went last year. I have not finished the list due to time contraints but Hope it will be useful to u in the meantime.

国父记念馆 Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall

Intro: This renowned Museum is the fruit of Chiang Kai-Shek’s foresight during

China

’s internal strife and WWII when he saved the country’s most exquisite antiques.

Transport: Guo Fu Ji Nian Guan MRT station

Compliments: An impressive collection of very exquisite artefacts that will definitely held you in awe. It was said that not even The Western can hold a candle to Chinese sculpture that took each and every cut to perfection. Adjoining to it are the National Theatre and National Concert both designed like Palaces.

市林夜市

Into: The mother of all night bazaars. Shilin bustles every night even till after midnight on weekends. Features variety of goods and a whole lot of food stalls.

Transport: Jiantan Mrt Station (danshui Line)

Compliments: 大排鸡 very big and tasty, really different from the ones sold in

Singapore

. Also, the queue may seem long, but actually the wait is abt 5 mins only. If u want something adventurous, indulge yourself in the 臭豆腐, or the squids that are twice as big because Taiwanese usually eat them in wholesome without cutting.

九分

Intro: A Quaint sea-facing town that is a popular weekend attraction known for its tea house culture, wooden houses and stone pavements up a steep terrain. Visit on a weekday noon and stroll along the street, try the local cuisine and pick up some souvenirs.

Transport: Take the rail to Ruifang and transfer to Jilong bus for Jiufen or Juinguashi

Compliments:

忘情茶馆 located somewhere at the end of the street which faces the sea. Take an hr break there and enjoy the breeze and the sea scenery. Do not hesitate to ask the friendly

lady manager how to brew a fragrant pot of tea so that u and

ur

frenz can take turns at trying.

Visit the any of the stalls along the street for its popular handmade fishballs such as sharks fin fishballs.

台北 101

Intro: Standing at 508m, the 101-floor

Taipei

101 overlooks the city of

Taipei

. Take the 37sec escalator ride up to the highest 89th floor for a 360deg view of the surrounds.

Transport: 15-min walk or free shuttle bus ride from

Taipei

City hall

MRT station (Banan Line).

Costs: Entrance fee NT$350 for adults and NT$320 for children.

Compliments: This tower is in the heart of the city surrounded by a lot of shopping centres. In the escalator of

Taipei

101, the ceiling is beautifully decorated with luminous colours and stars. Enjoy the experience of being escorted by the 电梯小姐.

Others: The entrance fee is too expensive. You can’t really see clearly the features of each building from the tower, they are just like small dots perhaps a bit bigger especially when there is a fog. Some of the shopping centres are quite branded, while some of them have really good bargains. ( I mean relatively cheaper, but cannot bargain price).Nothing really special with

Taipei

101, can be deemed as the last priority if u are running on a tight budget.

新北头

Into: Another popular hot spring area other than Yang Ming Shan. Here, there is a wide variety of

hot springs

that range widely in prices.

Transport: 新北头 MRT Station

Special Feature: Choose the hot spring called 水都 which is at the further end of the lane. Its neither too cheap nor too ex. Immerse yourself in the indoor and outdoor springs as long as u want. It is a public pool which requires swimming suit. A total refreshing experience after the dip and fill your hunger at the food stall next to it. Be sure to go on a weekday morning or noon where there will be very few tourists so that basically the pool is all yours.
