Sunday outing

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

Wanna write tis since last Sunday but no time. Referring to David’s blog, me, CY, Rainer, Aiting and him had a very interesting debate on relationships. The most interestng new idea was abt this phrase "love is selfish" contributed by david.

Obviuosly everyone held diff views on love, dating and marriage. Most of us interprete the meaning as wanting and possessing the one you love for yourself, there is no room for a third party. To David, it means always searching the right and most ideal one fo himself. To him, one shld be constantly looking out for the most ideal half before marriage. To him its like if a better one and more suitable one pops up, he would give up the current one to pursue his happiness.

Rayner had a very eccentric idea on not marrying. He did not want to burden anyone with his problems cos to him the other half shld be the one to share poblems with. A certain part of me feels that its the freedom that he’s unwilling to sacrifice and he hasn found a highly tolerant and independent girl who will not cling on him and shares his reading habits as well.

SDU is another one of our topics. Obviously I’m still against dating thru SDU but obviously the stereotypes of SDU hav dimimished. Now its becoming an outlet fo socialising events and knowing more friends. but it still depends for eg. speed dating, which David was all for it. "Name, job, Hobbies, next!" (7mins) or "not my type, next" (less than 1 min), haha…

Aiting was the most pathetic of all. Her love history became the focus again. So did it start during the Japan Trip or at NLDS, huh? and her job too as land surveyor, surveying the land for earthworms to see suitable a not to use. She retorted that she did not go there to check for earthworms and Chingyong said grasshoppers. Aiting save ur breath, they won’t listen to you, i’m sure there are frogs there too….

David finally blurted out his unacquitted love, his fav song is 痴心绝对, mine is 老鼠爱大米. I feel that this song is similar one sided love is because it says that "if one day, love is fulfilled" and "I remember that there’s alway this person in my heart, even if I can only think of you in this way." Of course, there are many ways to interprete this song, but what touched me the most is the unconditional love that was described here, "no matter how difficult the road is,I will fulfill it and I will do anything to make you happy."

Last but not least, I wrote this song totally by heart, hope you guys like it…

Happy Birthday David

Thursday, June 23rd, 2005

I used to have a gd guy friend whom we were very close. However, neither of us ever fall in love with each other and we both knew it was impossible, simply too buddy to be anything else. Then our friendship broke….

Today I saw a familiar figure like him,but I dun think it was him. Then david came to TCC with his friend.Very very touched esp when I was feeling down these days,in addition how many frenz actually take time to see u at work?  He would always be that old friend who we will never fall in love with, never have chemistry but be the best of buddies.

I’m glad to have them in my life. They are like the Life jackets in my life, keep me afloat and optimistic. I lost that old friend but I gained another support. Its a precious gift to me.To this, I wish David Happy Birthday.

Work

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

I’m not really happy at work recently. Apparently my colleagues dun share the same work ethics as me. When I was the hostess, I had to single-handedly cope with 12 tables, arranging seats, taking orders, refilling glasses, talking to customers etc…somemore its weekends too, full house, but when there are 2 pple in the same section A on a weekday, all they did were to stand there, talk and wait for customers and take orders as they come. They did not go round and refill glasses and me in Section B had to do section B and runner as well, so busy and yet they seem so idle. the Barista was very rude. True she is like this and withour bad intentions, but the way she raise her voice did not improve my mood one bit.Once I asked her for chocolate chips, she reprimanded me and sarcatiscally said why I cannot take myself. I could have understand that if she were busy, but all she was left to do was 1 order with a few drinks and the chocolate chips were requests frm customers in section A not even my own section B.She asks me why i clean the cutlery so slowly, what did she expect when I have to run around in section B and as support crew to section A? I had to stop cleaning as and when there are orders to run, customers caling etc…

I’m the kind who take initiative at my work and wants everything to be perfect. My collegue who is also part-timer apparently cannot see the signals that I was giving him. At Closing section A, I helped him to pre-wipe those tables that already have no more customers, in addition to the sugar bowls topped up. He didn take initiative to help me and I dun think he will do it to the rest of the tables that are still occupied with customers later on. As a gesture of helping only, I was transferred to do the closing for Section A and he to do the washing at the bar area. I mean if the Barista is very busy, I have no problems with it, but she was talking away as she clean the bar and I suspect its just because she cannot finish the work, so she wanted his help but giving the excuse that he is too slow to close Section A. I really hate closing Sectin A, especially the heavy tables and chairs and the customers always leave late leaving me with so many things to clear. Its vry bad lol, I could be doing hostess and closing at Section A the whole week lol, Its just like Yunnan Restaurant when they ask u to do everything when they know you can do it.

I thought I could take charge of what I’m doing but I’m after all still a part-timer. The new Junior Captain wants authority obeyed. There was a voucher and I knew how to key into the system as my Previous captain taught me and I said I wanted to do it, and she would rather make a phone call to my previous Captain and ask for help. She said she is assisting the hostess, but she keep taking over my job of keying things into the system when it is my job, and some more keep talking to the hostess only. and keep changing positions when as when she like it, sometimes at section A, sometimes at Section B and sometimes Barista. Everyone likes her, but i think she is just another Opportunist, quick at grabbing the hearts of others. Am I just jealous? Its very seldom that I can see so many faults in 1 person esp when I’m so simple minded.

Is it right that during briefing a whole team shld be reprimanded for not refilling glasses when apparently it was not me? Is it right to tell me off for not refilling glasses when after going 1 round and another flash, all my customers’ glasses are empty again? Sigh

17th June

Friday, June 17th, 2005

Seems ages since I update my blog. k 2day I met a very rude salesgirl at TS (at 2pm) who was OBVIOUSLY looking at my arms as I wore the sleeveless blouse that David put in his blog last week.I was jus asking her a qn abt the arrival date 4 xxx VCD (not x-rated, jus too lazy to go n check the name) n she didn seem very friendly n worse still look at my arms. I admit i may not be slim, but a svc is a svc, manners shld be observed no matter at work or outside. Look discretely, definitely ill-mannered.

Anyway I went back home after that, took my beauty sleep in order to look my best cos i was meeting some new friends who wanna give me an assignment on translation.n so I wore even a more revealing strap blouse to the VCD shop again to get my VCD which arrived at 4pm(partly cos the blouse hasn been washed yet so I wanna wear 1 more time n partly being spiteful).Anyway she was too busy to notice, but i was rewarded with an appreciative young man at the convenience store below my blk) just now at 3.30 am after my work who forgot the price of my coke after keying into the register, and politely opened doors for me, haha… ( something Rainer is gonna gossip abt again, I noe, he’s got nothing to do, so I will try to understnd). I prefer to give the guy the benefit of my doubt for my new look.

As usual, blur as I am, mistook my interview today for 1-4pm as between 1-4pm.nevertheless, i was lucky to be rescheduled next wk.Too long never work full time really makes me very lazy.

Xiamen, Hokkein Province

Sunday, June 12th, 2005

My Parents n my mum’s sisters recently went back to my grandpa’s hometown in Xiamen. It was really interesting the way the culture there works. No wonder our dialect always starts with vulcurity. Pple there r always scolding each other, the loudest n most shrewd always win e battle. Connections always do the trick. My China relatives were so hospitable that they actually stand in the doorway welcoming my parents and aunties. They never once shouted but the moment they talk to their counterparts,&&^%%$#@@!@# at each other. The most funny thing is tat mum says to scold somebody there, u dun say "mei li mao" (ill-mannered) but instead say "mei wen hua" (uncivilised).

The most interesting is the history of my grandpa whom fled from home to flee away from the military. They believe that once they got into military, there’s no turning back, dead for sure. Grandpa went to nanyang n nvr did go back.He married my grandma, but never knowing that there was an arranged bride waiting 4 him back home. Lao diao ya story, but its simple and romantic.

I’ll place the photos in my album, feel free to take a look.
